Honda Accord Overview

About Honda Accord

The benchmark mid-size sedan—the car that's been on the Car and Driver 10Best list more times than any other. It's the sensible choice, the family hauler, and the executive's commuter all in one. It's not flashy, but it's damn near perfect.

Specs of Honda Accord

The Accord has been through 11 generations. The 1980-1985 model was a compact with a 1.8L or 2.0L SOHC engine. The 1986-1989 model introduced fuel injection and a 2.0L 12-valve engine (120 hp). The 1990-1993 model is the “CB7” chassis—with a 2.2L F22A engine (130 hp) and double-wishbone suspension all around. The 1994-1997 model had the 2.2L VTEC (145 hp) and the 2.7L V6 (170 hp) in the EX. The 1998-2002 model is the “CG” chassis—the 2.3L F23A (150 hp) and the 3.0L J30A V6 (200 hp). The 2003-2007 model is the “CM” chassis—with the 2.4L K24A (160 hp) and the 3.0L V6 (240 hp). The 2008-2012 model introduced the 2.4L K24Z (190 hp) and the 3.5L V6 (271 hp). The 2013-2017 model had the 2.4L K24W (185 hp) and the 3.5L V6 (278 hp). The 2018-2022 model has the 1.5L turbo (192 hp), the 2.0L turbo (252 hp), and the 2.0L hybrid. The 2023-2026 model is the 11th gen—with a 1.5L turbo or a 2.0L hybrid (204 hp combined). It's front-wheel-drive, unibody, and has a CVT, 10-speed automatic, or 6-speed manual.

Reliability

The Accord is legendary. The F-series, H-series, K-series, and J-series engines are all excellent. The 1.5L turbo has some oil dilution issues—same as the Civic. The 2.0L turbo is a detuned Type R engine, and it's stout. The hybrid system is based on the Toyota system and is very reliable. The CVT is good if maintained. The 10-speed auto is decent. The Accord is a 250,000+ mile car with minimal issues. The 2003-2007 V6 models had transmission issues (the 5-speed auto was weak), but the 2008+ models fixed it. Overall, it's one of the most reliable mid-size sedans you can buy.
