The original hot hatch—a tiny, lightweight, two-seater that handled like a go-kart and revved like a motorcycle. It was the Si's spiritual predecessor and the car that made Honda a tuner's dream.
The CR-X had two generations. The 1st gen (1984-1987) had the 1.3L or 1.5L 12-valve engines (60-76 hp) and was incredibly light—under 1,900 lbs. The 2nd gen (1988-1991) is the “EF” chassis—with the 1.6L D16A6 SOHC (108 hp) or the 1.6L B16A DOHC VTEC (160 hp) in the SiR (not sold in the U.S.). It had double-wishbone suspension all around and a 5-speed manual. It was front-wheel-drive, unibody.
The CR-X is very reliable. The D16 and B16 engines are bulletproof. The manual transmission is great. The main issues are rust (on the rear wheel arches) and the sunroof leaking. The CR-X is a collector's car now.
