The cab-forward sedan that was a sales success for Dodge. It was a big, comfortable, front-drive sedan with a spacious interior and a V6. It was a decent car, but the 2.7L V6 is a disaster.
The Intrepid was a front-wheel-drive, unibody full-size sedan on the Chrysler LH-platform. 1st gen (1993-1997) had a 3.3L V6 (150 hp) or a 3.5L V6 (214 hp) and a 4-speed auto. 2nd gen (1998-2004) had a 2.7L V6 (200 hp), a 3.2L V6 (225 hp), or a 3.5L V6 (253 hp) and a 4-speed auto. It was a cab-forward design with a massive interior.
The 3.3L V6 is excellent. The 3.5L V6 is good. The 2.7L V6 is a disaster—it has oil sludge issues, timing chain problems, and water pump failures—avoid it. The 4-speed auto (A606/42LE) is a weak link. The Intrepid is a cheap used car, but avoid the 2.7L V6 at all costs.
