The current kings of the Cadillac performance hill. The CT4-V and CT5-V Blackwing are two of the best driver's sedans on the planet, with manual transmissions and howling V8s. They're modern legends with a few teething issues.
The CT4 is a compact luxury sedan, and the CT5 is a mid-size luxury sedan. Both are on the GM Alpha platform (rear-drive). CT4 engines: 2.0L Turbo I4 (237 hp), 2.7L Turbo I4 (325 hp), or 3.6L twin-turbo V6 (472 hp) in the CT4-V Blackwing. CT5 engines: 2.0L Turbo I4 (237 hp), 3.0L twin-turbo V6 (335 hp), or 6.2L supercharged V8 (668 hp) in the CT5-V Blackwing. Transmissions: 6-speed manual or 10-speed auto (10L80).
The CT4 and CT5 are relatively new. The 3.6L twin-turbo in the Blackwing is a known quantity—it's a good engine. The 3.0L twin-turbo is newer, but it seems solid. The 10-speed automatic has a known recall issue for the 2020-2022 models—a transmission control valve problem that can cause the front wheels to lock up. GM has a software fix for it. The Blackwings are fantastic cars, but they're not for the faint of heart.
