The smaller, rollover-prone Bronco that's a cult classic. It's a Ranger with an SUV body and a 2.9L V6 that's prone to head gasket failure. It's a cheap off-roader, but it's a death trap on the highway.
Compact SUV, body-on-frame, leaf-spring rear, TTB front suspension (same as the Ranger). Engines: 2.8L Cologne V6 (90 hp—gutless), 2.9L Cologne V6 (140 hp—better), and finally a 4.0L Cologne V6 in 1990 (160 hp). It had a 4x4 system with manual locking hubs and a shift-on-the-fly transfer case.
The 2.8L and 2.9L have head-gasket issues—they crack between cylinders. The 4.0L is much better. The manual transmission (TK-5) is weak and prone to bearing failure. The real problem is rollover risk—this thing has a narrow track and a high center of gravity, and it earned a reputation for flipping. If you get one, upgrade the suspension and don't drive it like a sports car.
